Tricarico

I am a country of stones and memories.
History, culture and poetry intertwine in a timeless tale: centuries-old traditions and voices resonate through my alleys. But if there is a name I carry with pride, it is that of Rocco Scotellaro, the poet and peasant mayor who was able to tell the most authentic soul of my people.
Among my streets, Scotellaro found inspiration for his verses, giving voice to the hope, the toil and the dignity of the Lucanian farmers.
His spirit still lives here, between the pages of his poems and in my places that were dear to him.
My historic mayor is in the hearts of all my inhabitants, past, present and future, but I am also something else.
My historic center is a medieval labyrinth of alleys and arches, dominated by the imposing Norman Tower, symbol of my ancient greatness.
I carry within me rites and traditions. My historical Carnival is one of the most evocative in Basilicata: here, the masks represent an ancient allegory of the peasant world and offer a unique experience between ancestral sounds and bright colors.
If you decide to come and visit me, I will welcome you with my glorious past, the culture that you can breathe and the ever-living memory of Rocco Scotellaro.
